The Town of Peace River is looking for a Public Works Foreman to lead the team responsible for maintaining the infrastructure our community depends on every day.

From roads and sidewalks to water systems, sewer infrastructure, fleet, and emergency response, Public Works plays a critical role in keeping Peace River safe, connected, and operating smoothly. We are looking for a leader who understands the work, supports their team, and takes pride in delivering quality services to the community.

Reporting to the Public Works Manager, this is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys being out in the field, solving problems, supporting employees, and making sure the job gets done safely and efficiently.

We are looking for someone with the following key characteristics:

  • A leader who motivates team members and is proficient at delegating work, problem-solving and decision making.
  • An excellent communicator with the ability to communicate verbally and electronically to multiple levels in the organization including management, field staff, the public, and other departments. 
  • A helpful demeanor and positive attitude while dealing with the public, with a demonstrated ability to interact with people in a sensitive, tactful, diplomatic, and professional manner at all times.
  •  A background working with a modern safety program including a practical and working understanding of ground disturbance, trenching safety, equipment safety, leading safety meetings, performing hazard assessments, and stopping work if necessary. 
  • This position requires someone with a helpful demeanor and positive attitude while dealing with the public, someone who is able to take action in emergency response (ie, during flooding, etc.) and a desire to be part of building a great community. 

 Required Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years of municipal public works experience (or engineering consulting experience supporting municipalities).
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Road construction and maintenance
    • Water and sewer infrastructure construction and maintenance
    • Fleet and facilities asset management
  • Practical knowledge and experience in computer systems and business applications;
  • Valid Alberta Class 3 Driver's License with Air Brake (Q) endorsement.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

 Desired Technical Competencies:

  • Alberta Environment (AEP) unrestricted Level II Certificate in Water Distribution (WD);
  • Alberta Environment (AEP) unrestricted Level II Certificate in Waste Water Collection (WWC);
  • Completion or eligible to complete the APWA Public Works Supervisor Level Three course.

Full Time • Permanent Employment

Salary: $94,307—$104,377 annually

Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, 8:00am to 5:00pm
