Recycling

As of April 1, 2025, the Town of Peace River's recycling program is managed by Circular Materials, a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating efficient recycling systems.

This change is part of Alberta's new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework, which shifts recycling costs from taxpayers to producers, encouraging innovative solutions and reducing packaging waste.

Phase two of the ERP framework launched on October 1, 2026. This change helps unify what materials are accepted for household recycling province-wide. 

What This Means for You

  • More materials accepted: Glass containers, foam packaging, flexible plastic packaging, aerosol containers, laminated paper and plastic can be included with your regular collection items like paper, cardboard, and tin cans. 
  • No Changes to Your Schedule: Continue recycling as usual — collection schedules remain the same.
  • New Recycling App: The app provides recycling schedules, material search, and service alerts. Visit circularmaterials.ca/app to learn more and download the app.
  • New Resource for Recycling Information: Visit circularmaterials.ca/peaceriver for detailed information about recycling in Peace River, including guides and updates.
  • New Contact for Missed Pickups: If your recycling was missed or you have recycling-related inquires, contact Prairie Disposal directly (or escalate to Circular Materials) at the contact info below.
