Water

Our Water System

The Town's water system includes the Water Treatment Plant, four reservoirs, one booster station, over 80 kilometres of transmission and distribution water mains and thousands of water meters that all work together to deliver safe, reliable drinking water to our homes and businesses.

Water Conservation Bylaw

The Town of Peace River’s water restriction bylaw provides guidance based on reservoir levels and is managed by our Department of Infrastructure and Development.

During summer months, there may be times the Town imposes water restrictions that limit your use of water. This is to ensure the integrity of our system and our ability to react to emergencies during drought conditions.

The graphic lists the actions we will take as water levels drop. Note that these actions are flexible, as our Infrastructure and Development department will be monitoring the status of water levels in real time.

Water Consumption and Water Saving Tips

Did you know the average person uses .35 cubic metres of water each day, or about 11 cubic metres of water per month? 1 cubic metre equals:

  • 35 cubic feet/220 gallons/1,000 litres
  • 8 ten-minute showers or 8 baths
  • 77 low flow toilet flushes or 48 conventional toilet flushes

Preventing frozen water meters and water lines

Throughout the winter property owners may experience frozen water pipes, water meters, and service lines. Property owners are responsible for protecting the water pipes, water meter, and service lines on their property from freezing.
