The Peace River Archives, located within the Peace River Museum, houses over 20,000 archival records. We aim to collect, preserve and make publicly accessible records that tell the story of the north Peace River region. Business, organization and personal histories are an important part of this region’s story and records created are the physical evidence of that contribution. As an Accredited Archival Institution through the Archives Society of Alberta we make sure to maintain best practice standards for all objects in our care.
Research
The Peace River Archives has a variety of resources for public use. This includes our archival collection, reference files on various properties, businesses, and people, an obituary catalog, and a reference library that contains local and regional books.
Access to the Peace River Archives and Reference Library is by appointment only. Please contact us to make an appointment or submit a research request to museum@peaceriver.ca
What We Collect
The Archives seeks to retain and preserve records which speak to the function and history of an organization or individual. Types of records we commonly collect are:
· Best practices, policies, and procedures
· Meeting minutes and other textual material
· Special events or promotional material
· Photographs and audio-visual material
· Blueprints, maps and building information
· Original works (letters, diaries, reports, etc.)
Where We Collect From
The Archives collection area includes the Town of Peace River, Northern Sunrise County, County of Northern Lights, M.D. of Peace No. 135, M.D. of Fairview No. 136, and Clear Hills County.
