The Town of Peace River boasts over 17 km of public trails, offering both paved and non-paved options for exploration. Whether you prefer a leisurely stroll, walking your dog, or biking, Peace River’s extensive trail network ensures there’s plenty to keep you engaged.

A standout feature of the town’s trail system is the suspended pedestrian bridge beneath Highway 2, providing a unique vantage point away from vehicular traffic. Experience breathtaking views while traversing this bridge, and take advantage of the rest area conveniently located at the halfway point.

Trail Etiquette

  • Bicycle riders yield to walkers/hikers and joggers
  • Please Keep pets on a leash at all times; for their safety and the safety of other users
  • Keep trails clean, if you bring items in, please bring them out with you when you leave
  • Motorized vehicles are prohibited
  • Be courteous and respect other trail users
  • Be aware of your personal fitness level and the level of difficulty of the trail and stay within your physical limitations
  • Respect and beware of all wildlife and give them lots of space
  • Report any trail concerns to the Recreation and Parks department at 780-624-3204

Trails by Area

North End

  • Paved Dyke Trail: Extends for 2700 meters. This area has good sidewalk connections to the trail.

Downtown & South End

  • Paved Dyke Trail: The major arterial extends meters extends from Downtown through the south end and is well-connected to the trail system with sidewalks and crosswalks.

West Hill

  • West Hill Trail: A primary arterial paved trail (2860 meters) running through the West Hill Baseball/Slo-pitch diamonds to Northern Lakes College and the commercial area.
  • Lower West Peace Dyke Trail: A raised trail running north and south along the top of the dyke system (1100 meters).

West Hill (South of Highway 2)

  • Paved Arterial Trail: Connects from the suspended bridge under the Highway bridge to old Highway 2 (720 meters).
  • Newly Paved Trail Route: Crosses old Highway 2 and leads to the back of Misery Mountain, connecting to the Saddleback area.

Saddleback Area

  • New Playground and Park Area: Features a paved trail loop surrounding the playground and greenspace. This loop is part of a larger trail system that includes connections to 80 Street via 82 Street.

Misery Mountain Trail

Misery Mountain features natural trails that lead up the hills offering stunning views of the Peace River Valley and the western side of the community. To access this natural trail network, park at the trailhead located just off 99th Ave behind the Westridge Condominiums.

This area is perfect for hiking and mountain biking enthusiasts alike. The panoramic views from the trails make the elevation gain well worth the effort!
