Tree Management
Recreation & Parks plants, trims and, where necessary, removes trees on Town property. If you have a concern about a tree on Town Property you can report it at (780)624-3204.
Trees on private property, including back alleys, are the responsibility of the property owner.
Boulevard Trees
A boulevard is a section of green space, usually planted with trees, situated between the road's curb and the sidewalk, or next to the property line when no curb is present. Trees in boulevards are planted and maintained by the Recreation and Parks department in accordance with the Boulevard Tree Policy.
Naturalization
Naturalization is an important strategy for managing green spaces in Peace River, especially given the town's challenging topography. Embracing a more natural approach to maintaining certain areas can offer several benefits:
- Prevents Erosion: By allowing natural prairie grasses and vegetation to thrive, soil erosion is minimized. Regular cutting on steep slopes and river banks can disturb the soil, leading to erosion and loss of topsoil.
- Reduces Moisture Loss: Natural vegetation helps retain soil moisture, which is essential for maintaining healthy ecosystems.
- Safety for Personnel: Steep slopes and uneven terrain can be dangerous for mowing equipment and operators.
- Supports Biodiversity: Allowing native grasses and plants to grow promotes a diverse range of flora and fauna, which supports local wildlife and enhances ecological balance.
