Our Public Works team partnered with Peace River High School to give the wooden stairs leading up to the west side of the school some much-needed care and maintenance last week.
After meeting with the school to discuss current concerns and future plans, our team identified ways to help make the stairs more stable and extend their usable life, as the wood railing and steps were deteriorating. With the steps on the east side (Kauffman Hill) having collapsed due to sloughing, it's important students have a safe walkway to school.
The Town contributed staff expertise, manpower, and building materials, while Peace River High School turned the project into a hands-on work experience for summer students, who assisted with the labour.
It's great to collaborate like this, and thanks to the students for helping out!
