Catch our Governance and Priorities meeting Monday, June 1?
Just a few highlights:
➡ Staff Sargeant Lacey Blair presented a report from the Peace Regional RCMP covering January 1 to March 31, 2026. The report noted that overall Criminal Code files were down compared to the same period in 2025, with total Criminal Code files dropping from 480 to 339, including decreases in persons crimes and property crimes. The RCMP also highlighted ongoing work on drug trafficking, break and enters, community visibility, and impaired driving. You can see more details in the report in the agenda.
➡ Administration brought back a discussion about the format of departmental quarterly reports. Council was asked what it likes about the current reports, what could be improved, what information is useful or unnecessary, whether anything is missing, and whether quarterly reports should be removed, restructured, or changed in timing or format. The purpose was to make sure Council is receiving the right level of information to stay informed and do its job effectively.
➡ Council received the May 2026 Community Peace Officer report, which showed 101 files created in May, 600 files year-to-date, and 15 active files. The largest category was traffic, with 59 files, followed by trespass with 9, loitering with 7, parking with 6, and several smaller categories including public nuisance, business license, illegal dumping, and assists to RCMP or the public.
