2026 Combined Assessment and Property Tax Notices Mailed

Combined 2026 assessment and property tax notices have been mailed.

When you receive your property tax notice, it is important to know that your bill includes more than just the municipal portion of property taxes.

The municipal portion is set by Council and supports local services such as roads, parks, recreation, snow clearing, protective services, infrastructure, and day-to-day Town operations. This is the portion most commonly thought of as the “property tax.”

Your bill also includes requisitions the Town is required to collect on behalf of other organizations or levels of government. This includes the provincial education property tax, which is set by the Government of Alberta and helps fund the school system in the province. The Town does not set this amount, but is required to collect it through property tax bills and transfer it to the Province. Similarly, the Town is required to collect on behalf of North Peace Housing and transfer the funds to that organization.

For a residential property assessed at $300,000, the 2026 property tax bill is approximately:

  • Municipal taxes: $3,038.52
  • Provincial education tax: $840.84
  • Seniors housing requisition: $161.37
  • Total: $4,040.73

In this example, the municipal portion makes up about 75% of the total bill, the provincial education tax makes up about 21%, and the seniors housing requisition makes up about 4%.

If your total property tax bill changed this year, the change may not be entirely related to the municipal portion. Final bills are affected by property assessment, the municipal tax rate, and requisitions the Town is required to collect on behalf of others.

Across Alberta, the total amount collected through the provincial education property tax has increased. You may see posts from other municipalities referencing different percentage increases. That's because the impact on individual municipalities and property owners varies depending on local assessment, property class, and the provincial education tax rate applied locally. In Peace River’s residential example, the provincial education tax portion makes up about 21% of the total bill and increased by 2.55% in 2026.

When reviewing your notice, look for the breakdown showing the municipal portion and any requisitions. This will show where the different parts of your property tax bill are going.

The following is the official notice required under the Municipal Government Act:
