Council Highlights: Nov. 10, 2025

Catch Council on Nov. 10, 2025? 

Here are some highlights:

  • Marissa Geldart, Executive Director of the Sagitawa Friendship Society, presented a delegation regarding the Out of the Cold Shelter, which opened for the winter Nov. 1. Council asked questions about neighbourhood impacts, security checks, cleanliness around the site, client expectations, and coordination with the Peace River Correctional Centre. 
  • Later in the meeting, in a recorded vote, Council defeated a motion to provide a letter of support to Sagitawa Friendship Society regarding their application Temporary Emergency Responses Measures (TERM) funding.
  • Council passed all three readings of Bylaw 2179 - Meeting Procedures Bylaw Amendment, updating the Deputy Mayor appointment process to a one-year term from organizational meeting to organizational meeting, with clearer procedures for future appointments.
  • Council reviewed a proposed Business Recognition Policy designed to celebrate business milestones and formalize criteria for the annual Ambassador Award. Council directed Administration to revise the policy to begin milestone recognition at 10 years, require three years of operation before eligibility for the Ambassador Award, and include the Economic Development Committee in the review process. The updated policy will return to a future meeting.
  • Council received an update on the transition to the Town’s new residential waste collection contractor, Prairie Disposal Ltd. New garbage carts begin arriving the week of November 17. GFL’s final pickups occur the week of November 24, when residents should leave their bins curbside afterward for removal. Prairie Disposal begins collection the week of December 1, 2025. Collection days remain the same. The new contract reduces Town costs by approximately $10,000 per year.
