"I hear a fight happening on the street, or someone is breaking into a car."

"Someone has set up an unpermitted tent or encampment on public park property."

• Contact: Community Peace Officers (Dispatch: 780-617-4196)
• Note: Community Peace Officers handle social disorder, public disturbances, and loitering.

"An illegal camp or gathering spot has been completely abandoned, but there is a massive mess of tarps, garbage, and debris left behind on public property."

• Contact: Public Works (780-624-2574) or Submit a Service Request
• Note: If there is no active human occupancy or immediate safety threat, the situation shifts from an enforcement issue to a maintenance task. Public Works manages debris removal on Town property.

If people are currently occupying the site or acting aggressively, residents must immediately pivot calling Emergency Services (9-1-1) or the Community Peace Officers (780-617-4196).

"My neighbor's grass is waist-high, or they have piles of unmanaged trash accumulating on their driveway."

Scenario: "There is a dog wandering around loose without an owner, or a dog won't stop barking late at night."

• Note: The team investigates animal control and noise complaints on a case-by-case basis.

Scenario: "A vehicle has been parked on the residential street in front of my house without moving for over a week."

"There is a massive pothole on a Municipal roadway, or a sidewalk block is completely cracked and uneven."

• Note: This non-urgent online tool updates Public Works about infrastructure, cleanliness, and maintenance.

"The streetlight right outside my bedroom window is completely burnt out and flickering."

• Note: The Town of Peace River does not operate the street lights directly; residents should use ATCO's online street light form.

"Water is bubbling up through the cracks in the middle of the road, or sewage is backing up into my basement."

• Contact: Public Works Emergency Line (780-624-3085).
• Note: This is a 24-hour urgent hotline. Residents should not use online webforms for active water or sewer main breaks.

"The wheel popped off my garbage cart, the lid is cracked, or my entire bin went missing after collection day."

• Note: Under the Town's waste services agreement, the contractor—Prairie Disposal—is directly responsible for reviewing, repairing, and replacing damaged or missing residential carts. Residents should call their Peace River dispatch line directly rather than using the Town's online service request portal.

"The garbage truck just drove right past my house, but my bin was placed on the curb hours ago."

Note:  Missed residential pickups are typically addressed the same day or by Friday mornings. 

"I think there is a mistake on my water and sewer invoice, or I haven't received my bill."

"My neighbor is building a massive fence, shed or gazebo, right on our shared property line without a visible permit."

"The town snowplow went by and left a massive windrow (snow bank) blocking my driveway entrance."

Note: When clearing local residential roads, our crews focus on plowing the main driving lanes first. While operators work diligently to minimize the accumulation of snow piles (windrows), some level of windrowing is unavoidable due to the nature of heavy equipment. Clearing the ridge of snow left at the end of a private driveway is the responsibility of the adjacent property owner.

"My residential street hasn't been plowed yet, and it has been three days since the snowstorm stopped."

The Town follows a strict priority schedule for winter road maintenance to keep critical routes safe:

• Priority 1 routes (emergency services routes, hospitals, arterial roads, and school zones) are cleared first during and immediately after a storm. 
• Priority 2 roads (collector streets and public transit routes) follow next. 

• Priority 3 local residential streets are plowed only after higher-priority routes are fully cleared and safe.

  If significant drifting or consecutive storms occur, crews must return to Priority 1 routes, which can delay the snow removal timeline for residential neighbourhoods. We appreciate your patience as our crews work around the clock.

"A large tree branch from a town boulevard or public park has broken off and is hanging dangerously over my fence."

• Note: Handled by the Parks Division. (If the tree is entirely on private property, it is the homeowner's responsibility to manage).

"The playground equipment at my local neighborhood park has a broken swing or has a sharp edge that could injure a child."

"I just received my annual property tax bill, and I strongly disagree with the assessed value of my property."

• Note: You must contact the Town’s Property Tax assessor first. If unresolved, you must file a formal Assessment Complaint before the deadline printed on your notice.

Under the Municipal Government Act, Section 460(6), “There is no right to make a complaint about any tax rate.” This means that you cannot appeal your taxes because you feel that they are too high. You may only appeal the assessment.
