New Director of Protective Services

You may have seen him out there already, but we're thrilled to announce our new Director of Protective Services, Daniel Cress!

Daniel has a lifetime of experience in enforcement, from running his own security company in Nova Scotia to auxiliary policing, county enforcement, 12 years in Valleyview as a Community Peace Officer (CPO), and 22 years of fire service.

"I needed a new challenge," said Daniel about coming to Peace River, where he is in the process of moving with his family. "It was an awesome opportunity to grow."

He operates with a lead-by-example philosophy. Thanks to a shared services agreement with the Town of Valleyview, he's already working as a CPO in the community, and you might have seen him on patrol.

Initially, Daniel plans to establish an enforcement program in Peace River with bylaw and CPOs, with the goal to make the community feel safe. After that, he'll be assuming Director of Emergency Management responsibilities followed by fire department oversight.

"You'll see more patrols downtown," said Daniel. "My motto is to work with everybody and make everyone feel comfortable with Peace Officers."

And with that respect, he intends to discourage any intimidating or undesired behaviour from certain individuals in the community.

"We're excited to have Daniel join the senior leadership team at the Town," said Chief Administrative Officer Barb Miller. "We're already seeing the positive impact he's having in the community."

Besides work, Daniel is an avid outdoorsman, carpenter, and loves to tinker in his yard.

Join us in welcoming our new director – and give him a shout if you see him out there!

(PS, now that he's here, feel free to give him some work! If you've got a bylaw complaint, report it on our website here: https://www.peaceriver.ca/.../find.../submit-bylaw-complaint)
