Media Release: Apartment Fire Extinguished

Firefighters Extinguish Apartment Fire

Peace River, AB – Firefighters extinguished an apartment fire in the North end of Peace River last night.

The Peace River Fire Department responded to a call of an apartment fire in the North end of town at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, November 28.

Crews were on scene until 3 a.m. Friday, November 29, extinguishing the fire.

Due to extensive fire damage and difficulty accessing the fire, a portion of the apartment building was demolished to assist firefighting efforts.

No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Town of Peace River opened the Baytex Energy Centre as a reception centre for affected residents during the fire. That centre is now closed.

Motorists and pedestrians should take care in the area of 99 Street and 77 Ave, as the road conditions may be icy due to the firefighting efforts.

The Peace River Fire Department is thankful for support from neighbouring fire departments in Weberville, Grimshaw, Berwyn, Smoky River, and Northern Sunrise County.

Our thoughts are with all of those who have been affected.
