The Town of Peace River joined local and regional partners this week to launch the Crime Stoppers Rural Community Sign Program in our community.
Representatives from the Town, Peace River & District Chamber of Commerce, Peace Regional RCMP, Crime Stoppers Association of Edmonton and Northern Alberta, and our Community Peace Officer program gathered Wednesday after the first signs were installed.
Two signs are now in place, with more to be installed around Peace River.
The signs are intended to remind residents that Crime Stoppers provides a safe and anonymous way to share information about criminal activity, while also serving as a visible deterrent and showing that our community is paying attention.
Tips can include information about property crime, theft, drug activity, and other offences. Copper theft in particular has been a recent issue in the area.
In 2025, anonymous tips to Northern Alberta RCMP detachments through Crime Stoppers contributed to 34 arrests, 86 charges, and the recovery of more than $243,000 in drugs, cash, vehicles, and stolen property.
