Phase two of the Province of Alberta's Extended Producer Responsibility framework takes effect on October 1, 2026. This change helps unify what materials are accepted for household recycling province-wide.
What's new for Peace River:
- Glass containers, like pickle jars and pasta sauce jars.
- Foam packaging, like meat trays and styrofoam blocks.
- Flexible plastic packaging, like chip and snack bags, pet food bags, and apple sauce pouches.
- Aerosol containers, like shaving cream and hair spray (no hazardous materials).
- Laminated paper, like disposable coffee cups and paper take-out containers.
- Plastic packaging, like lotion and sunscreen tubes.
Be recycle ready:
- Give containers a quick rinse before putting in your recycling.
- Containers must be empty for recycling.
- Place materials clean, dry and loose in your recycling.
- Flatten and bundle cardboard to save space.
- Lids and labels can remain on containers.
- Have your recycling to the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day.
- Hazardous materials, like batteries, medical sharps, and hazardous aerosols, do not belong in your recycling. Safely recycle them at a designated drop-off location.
