G&P Highlights: December 2, 2024

Did you catch our Governance and Priorities meeting last night?

If not, here are some highlights:

  • Council continued to discuss the Utility Rate Bylaw, which proposes to raise utility rates by approximately 10% per year for five years. The goal of the rate increase would be for our utility reserves to fund capital replacement, limit our risk of incurring high-interest debt in the future, and no longer have taxpayers subsidize utility rates. Council is continuing to deliberate how to proceed. The bylaw will be returning to Council at next week's meeting.
  • Council reviewed the latest iteration of the tax-supported 2025 Budget. Hearing feedback from Council and the public, Administration has committed to finding internal efficiencies and keeping the 2025 municipal operating budget increase to 2%.
  • Council directed Administration to bring the future of the Town-owned portion of Lions Campground to the next Council meeting for formal consideration, where a decision will be made on how to move forward with that piece of land.
