Here are some of the highlights from the September 14, 2026, Council Meeting:
New snow-clearing equipment
- Council approved the purchase of a new snow wing for winter road maintenance. The purchase is funded by proceeds from August's fleet auction, putting the money raised back into frontline winter operations ahead of the season.
Joining the Peace River Area Monitoring Program
- Council directed administration to join the Peace River Area Monitoring Program (PRAMP), a regional, science-based air quality monitoring organization, and appointed Councillor Babalola as the town's representative. Membership comes at no cost and gives the town access to reliable local air quality data to support things like wildfire smoke response and public communication.
Regional economic development
- Council directed administration to respond to an invitation from the Town of Grimshaw, Village of Berwyn, and MD of Peace No. 135, confirming that Peace River is open to discussions about a potential regional economic development board serving the wider Peace Region.
RCMP quarterly update
- In the first quarter of 2026, criminal code files were down about 10% compared to the same period last year. The detachment also highlighted its community engagement work, including relocating the Crime Prevention Coordinator position to Peace River and arranging a visit by Edmonton Oilers player Darnell Nurse to local schools.
