Council Highlights: September 22, 2025

Catch Council last week?

Here are some updates:

➡ Council heard a presentation from Derek Young, Regional Director, Peace Region and Patrick L’Abbé, Bridge Manager, Peace Region of Alberta Transportation & Economic Corridors. They discussed the status of the bridge rehabilitation project for the 'old' blue bridge, whose repair has been delayed. They told Council that the province is currently looking for a new contractor to complete the bridge rehabilitation. All going well, that contract will be tendered this fall, and the ensuing work should take two years. You can see their whole presentation, which goes into much more details, at the Youtube link below.

➡ Two groups presented for Grants to Organizations. They included the Peace River Art Club and Peace River Municipal Library & Art Gallery. Miserable Miles and Northern Lites Speed Skating Club did not present in-person but also requested grant funding. Council will make a decision on any funding provided at a future meeting.

➡ Council passed the Land Use Bylaw, which replaces the old bylaw and finishes the process to modernize our rules around development and land use.

➡ Council appointed Jason Schofield, Jen Willox, and Dianne Lavoie to the Peace River Municipal Library Board. Council also acknowledged the completion of Pricilla Lalonde's term on the board, thanking her.

➡ Council approved a write-off of $44,481.33 in uncollectable receivables.

➡ Council approved the 2026-29 Operating Plan.

And always more.
