Catch our Special Council Meeting on Tuesday, May 19?
Here are a couple updates from it:
- Council approved a $250,000 project budget for design and construction work to repair Landing Street, the entrance road into Lower West Peace, funded from the tax-supported capital reserve. The work will address slope movement observed during the 2026 spring melt and is intended to create a longer-term repair for the road, which has remained under a single-lane closure since the localized landslide was identified. All going well, the project should be completed by the end of September, depending on weather, contractor scheduling, and other variables.
- Council also discussed matters related to the SPCA development permit application in closed session. This was done because the Town had received legal advice on the matter, and legal advice is protected under Section 32 of the Access to Information Act. The discussion also included confidential third-party financial information shared with the Town by the SPCA, which the Town has a duty to protect. The SPCA development permit application will continue through the Town’s regular development process. A Municipal Planning Commission meeting will be rescheduled to consider the application and make a determination.
