Catch Council this week?
Here are some highlights:
- Representatives from Energy Alberta provided an update on their pursuit of the Peace River Nuclear Power Project. You can see the full presentation in the agenda package.
- Council adopted a Snow Dump Use Policy, which creates a mechanism for the Town to allow private contractors in Peace River to dispose of snow in the Town's North End snow dump.
- Council directed Administration to develop options and cost estimates for consideration during 2026 budget discussions for a downtown camera security system. The goal of the camera system would be deterring crime and collecting evidence.
- Council directed Administration to purchase the parcel legally known as Plan 6120AZ Block 4 Lot 2 (10034 100 Street), informally known as Juliette’s Place, for the assessed value of $54,190. The Town currently holds title to the property as a “Tax Forfeiture.” By completing the purchase and transferring the funds to a separate account, the Town will obtain "clear" title to the property. Securing clear title provides certainty and stability and provides greater flexibility in how the property can be marketed and redeveloped. This approach allows the Town to proceed confidently with an expression of interest process focused on revitalizing the space.
- Council approved a grant of $5,000 to the 10 Acre Shaker Music Festival Society, in support of their application to the Canadian Heritage Local Festivals grant, to be funded through the 2026 Grants to Organizations budget, with funding released on notification of a successful grant application.
- Council adopted a Council Social Media Guideline. The guideline provides clarity and guidance for Council members using social media.
- Council directed Administration to carry forward the 2026-budget dollars allocated for three Council members’ attendance at the FCM Conference to the 2027 operating budget.
Always more.
