Catch Council on Monday?
Here are some highlights:
➡ Lacey Blair, Chief of Police for the Peace Regional RCMP, presented a community policing report for July through September 2025. You can see the full report and statistics in the agenda package.
➡ Council passed the 2026 Utility Rates Bylaw. It sets water and sewer rate increases to 5 per cent each, which is about half of the rise recommended by our utility rate model. In coming to this conclusion, Council considered the need to protect residents’ affordability and properly budget for future infrastructure requirements.
➡ Council directed Administration to maintain the current seniors’ rate fee structure for the Baytex Energy Centre, and to implement sponsored (free) programming for seniors at the Baytex.
➡ Council passed third reading of the Fees & Charges Bylaw for 2026.
➡ Pat Fisher, Director of Infrastructure and Development, provided an update on the new Town Hall building, including conceptual floor plans. You can see more details on that in the agenda.
➡ Council adopted the 2026 Capital Budget, which included several amendments. Among those were the removal of the Town Hall renovations dollars for 2026 ($1M), as well as removing the Belle Centre demolition ($1.25M) until we get more information, and removal of the demolition of the property known as Juliette’s Place ($120K).
➡ Council directed Administration to issue an Expression of Interest for the sale and remediation of the property known as Juliette’s Place (10034 100 Street).
➡ Council adopted the 2026-2030 Capital Plan, as amended.
Always more.
