Catch Council last night?
Whether you did or you didn't, here are some highlights:
➡ Dan Cress, Director of Protective Services, provided an explainer on bylaw and encampment enforcement processes. He addressed questions regarding how bylaw complaints and encampment removals are handled and what information can be released publicly. We also developed flowcharts depicting the processes from beginning to end. We’ll be posting those on our website so the public has a clear understanding of how bylaw and enforcement works within the municipality.
➡ Council authorized Administration to sell the tax forfeiture property at 9623 89th Avenue with a listing price of $54,000. In a second motion, Council also approved using the current appraised value as the basis for determining a listing price for any parcel taken under tax forfeiture to be sold for recovery of tax arrears, and authorized Administration to execute any such sale. Basically, Administration can now list tax forfeiture properties at their appraised market value price and doesn't have to go through Council to do so. Using this method helps us meet the requirements under the Municipal Government Act.
➡ Council directed Administration to return the Peace River Municipal Policing Committee Bylaw to the next regular meeting of Council for consideration of first reading. You can view a draft in the agenda.
➡ Similarly, Council directed Administration to return the Peace Regional Healthcare Attraction & Retention Committee Bylaw to the next regular meeting of Council for consideration of first reading.
➡ In a 5-2 recorded vote, Council approved the attendance of Deputy Mayor Marc Boychuk at the Alberta Recovery Conference in Calgary in September, including the allocation of $2,900 from the operating budget to cover all related costs of participation, including registration, travel, accommodation, and meals.
And then there were a bunch of reports, which you can dig into if you want summaries of what each department has been up to.
