Council Highlights: August 12, 2024

Seats were full for last night's public hearing on Bylaw No. 2158, Land Use Bylaw No. 1891 Amendment - Redistricting of Shaftesbury Settlement Lot 38.

After hearing from involved parties and residents in the area, Council recessed the hearing until the September 16, 2024 Council meeting, when it will resume.

Council also…

  • Passed a motion to provide a letter of support for the Sagitawa Friendship Society's grant funding for its Out of the Cold Shelter operations.
  • Heard that ATCO will be performing the majority of its conversion work in changing all eligible Town streetlights to LED bulbs starting September 9, 2024. There should be minimal disruptions for residents while that work takes place.
  • Learned that the Town is still waiting for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans to reconstruct the ramp of the north end boat launch prior to transferring it to Town ownership for a nominal fee. This was part of the decision made by Council in 2021 to assume ownership of the federal portion of the site. The Town will continue to be in communication with Small Craft Harbours on the progress toward finalizing this.
  • Discussed the Council Code of Conduct Bylaw.
…and a lot more.
