We're less than a week away from the 2025 Municipal Election!
As election signs are up all around town, you may notice that some signs haven't been put up by the candidate themselves. This is allowed, but there are some qualifications to bear in mind.
If you plan to advertise during the upcoming municipal election, please note that there are rules under Alberta’s Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) that you must follow.
Under section 163 of the LAEA, a third party must register with the Town of Peace River if they:
- Plan to spend $1,000 or more on election advertising, or
- Plan to accept $1,000 or more in advertising contributions.
Third-party advertisers should also be aware of financial reporting requirements and identification rules under section 179 of the Act.
In particular, 'Election advertising must include the third party’s name and contact information and must indicate whether the third party authorizes the ad.'
Different types of advertising, such as radio or telephone ads, also have specific requirements, so please review the full information on our website to ensure compliance.
