You've heard of firefighters getting a cat out of a tree, but what about a bear?
The Peace River Fire Department received a call from the RCMP to help with a bear rescue in Upper West Peace at about 7pm Thursday, Sept. 4.
Wildlife officials had tranquilized a young bear, about two years old. But after being hit with the tranquilizer, the bear climbed a tree, lodged its paw in a branch, and fell asleep.
Firefighters from Peace River and one from Weberville used a ground ladder to reach the bear and attached a rope to it, carefully lowering it to the ground. Alberta Fish and Wildlife then took custody of the bear, to be released in an area outside of town.
Thanks to everyone involved in this bear rescue!
Remember to always give bears space and keep your properties free of bear attractants like open garbage.
