Planning to spend some time on the water at Figure Eight Lake before fall sets in?
You need a lifejacket!
And now you're covered even if you forgot one at home.
We've installed a Lifesaving Society Lifejacket Loaner Station at Figure Eight Lake to improve water safety for everyone. Stations like this one are found at recreational locations all over Alberta and the NWT, and we're proud to have one here too.
Lifejackets are available free for use during the swimming and boating season (roughly May to Thanksgiving). All we ask is you put them back when you're done.
As you'll see on signage at Figure Eight Lake, it's not advised to swim at this location. That's part of why lifejackets are so important if you're boating or kayaking. And whether you're swimming or boating anywhere, wear a lifejacket!
Our Peace Regional Pool staff, who installed the station, did a little photoshoot with the single adult lifejacket we had available that wasn't in use – that means we're looking for donations!
If you have new or gently used lifejackets to donate, particularly adult ones rated for 90+ pounds, please bring them to the Baytex Energy Centre (the pool is closed right now for the hot tub repair and annual shutdown).
We plan to use this station to advertise other water safety information throughout the year.
Thanks to Alberta Parks for assistance in making the station a reality.
Pictured are pool staff Jaimie Gaudreau, Coralie DieBold, Zach Hewko, and Samantha Monette. And we just so happened on a few young people canoeing who were already taking advantage of the lifejackets, which was great to see!
