Hazardous Tree Removed

Wondering why we cut a tree down in Kinsmen Park?

During a formal inspection of the trees at the park, there was one elm tree that was deemed hazardous and had to be immediately removed. The trunk was split down the middle, right through the base.

The Town completed the work prior to the upcoming annual provincial pruning ban, which begins April 1 to September 30, as per the provincial and federal legislation that regulates the prevention and control of Dutch Elm Disease.

The new Parks Lead staff has inventoried more than 500 trees on Town property to date. In 2024, 47 elms and 78 other types of trees were pruned as part of the maintenance program.

Parks will continue to inventory each tree this year in all the Town parks, including assessing tree health, identifying pruning and maintenance, and identifying locations for planting new trees.
