Town Council met last night.
Here are some highlights from the Nov. 12 meeting:
- Council directed the Town to enter into a partnership with Peace River Rotaract Club to facilitate the group's proposed Subzero Skate Way pilot project this winter.
- On Bylaw No. 2163 (pertaining to fitness centres in an industrial area), Council provided second and third readings to add "indoor participant recreation services" to the light industrial district and mixed industrial-business district. Following this, Council also directed Administration to refund half the applicant's fee for the Land Use Bylaw amendment.
- On Bylaw No. 2158 (pertaining to gravel pit operation in Shaftesbury), Council declined to provide second and third readings to redistrict Shaftesbury Settlement Lot 38 from Residential 1-A District to Direct Control District.
- On Bylaw No. 2162, Council gave second and third reading to update policy 6.2.1 of the Municipal Development Plan.
- On Bylaw No. 2149, Council gave third reading to add "automotive electrical services" to the Land Use Bylaw.
- Glenda Farnden, Senior Municipal Relations Liaison for STARS, gave a presentation on that organization's emergency services. The organization is celebrating 40 years in service next year.
- Council renewed the appointments of Terry Sawchuk, Tyrell Kehler, and Channing Stenhouse to the Municipal Planning Commission for three-year terms.
- Regarding a petition for a local improvement levy to pave the cul-de-sac on 91 Street, Council declined to have the Town sign the petition. As the Town has two properties in this area and therefore could have participated in the survey (there are 18 other properties), this decision means the Town stays as a neutral party in the proceedings of the petition. Should the petition pass, a fee will be imposed on the property owners for this localized paving work.
- Council directed the Town to renegotiate the Reservoir 365 Energy Contract, saving the Town approximately $250,000 over the next 25 years.
- Council continued to discuss the draft 2025 budget.
And there's always more.
