Did you catch council Monday?
Here are some highlights:
- Sagitawa Friendship Society provided an update on their operations, relaying success stories from clients and emphasizing the separation between homelessness and criminality. The organization is seeking a letter of support from the Town for its Out of the Cold shelter overnight operations, with the letter being a requirement for its provincial funding. Council took the presentation for information and directed Administration to bring the request for a letter of support back to the next meeting.
- Chief Administrative Officer Barb Miller brought an update about Apex Security, including information about how the first few days of the pilot project were going, plus plans going forward, including monthly council reports.
- Samuel Mugford, Director of Corporate Services, reported that from April to June, the Town collected $10,500 in revenue from 420 applications for Criminal Record Checks.
- The hot tub replacement project, we're not happy to say, is cancelled for this year and will be evaluated again in the 2025 budget. Tanya Bell, Director of Community services, said the one bid the Town received for the project was significantly over budget.
- Pat Fisher, Director of Infrastructure and Development, got feedback from Council about plans for a crosswalk painting policy – what sort of paints should be allowed, areas of town, how long a crosswalk should be painted, and the like. That policy will be coming back to council in a future meeting.
- Following a request from CAO Miller, Council passed motions to provide $2,000 in funding to the Regional Energy Committee – a working group of elected officials and regional partners to plan for potential nuclear development – and ratify the terms of reference for the group.
As always, there was more.
