Council met July 14, and here are some highlights:
- Following a 4-3 recorded vote, Council defeated second reading of Bylaw No. 2176, Assessment of Manufactured Home Communities. That means the status quo maintains, and mobile homeowners will continue to be responsible for paying their own property taxes. The bylaw would have made park owners responsible for collecting and paying property taxes on residents' behalf.
- Council provided first reading to Bylaw No. 2178, Land Use Bylaw. A public hearing will be scheduled for August 11 – more on that soon.
- Council approved a Subdivision Timeline Extension Request for application SUB/2022/02. The extension allows the applicant more time to meet all the conditions of subdivision approval without having to start the process over.
- Council approved two Grants to Organizations of $7,450 to each of Peace River High School and Glenmary School to support upcoming provincial basketball tournaments.
- Council approved that the Town buy out five existing vehicles whose leases are ending this year for an estimated cost of $89,467.56.
- Council approved an Additional Paving Request for $340,000 to be funded from the tax-supported infrastructure reserve. This funding will cover additional main street paving work around Boston Pizza, the exterior of the downtown traffic circle, and also provide some financial flexibility for issues along the east side of main street.
- Council repealed Policy P-11-42-B, Compensation Rates for Municipal Election Workers. This will allow Administration to determine election workers' wages rather than them being set in stone by policy.
- Barb Miller, Chief Administrative Officer, informed the Town that the Municipal Police Model Study has kicked off and completion is anticipated by the end of November. The contract was awarded to BLU Alliance. Including a $30,000 grant from the province, the total cost for this study is $87,500.
- Council directed Administration to bring an update on the status of encampment enforcement to the next meeting.
There's always more.
