Catch Council on Monday, Feb. 23?
Here are some highlights:
➡ Members of the Peace River Municipal Library & Art Gallery provided an update on their operations. Statistics show in-person visits to the library continued to grow in 2025, up to 37,543 visits. You can see their whole presentation in the agenda package.
➡ Council adopted the amended Offsite Levy Policy as presented. The policy governs the terms of offsite levies, which are a mechanism for municipalities to assess a levy on new to development to help pay for future infrastructure needs.
➡ Council directed Administration to use the unallocated Local Government Fiscal Framework funds in the 2026 capital budget slated to be carried forward into 2027 to fund the $125,000 shortfall of the sidewalk project by Glenmary School. This decision allows the project to proceed in 2026 – a key safety improvement in an area many students walk.
➡ Council appointed Hilda Lambert to the Town of Peace River Library Board for a three-year term.
➡ Council accepted the briefing note regarding the Political Activity in Town Facilities Directive for information. This new directive creates rules around political activities in Town facilities. You can see the whole directive in the agenda, but long story short, political activities in Town facilities will not be allowed going forward other than in specific, equal-playing-field instances, such as all-candidates forums. The goal of this is to keep public facilities as neutral spaces where everyone can attend and feel welcome.
There's more, but you'll have to check the agenda for it.
