Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure and Development, the Manager of Public Works is at the helm of everything that keeps our town moving, from roads and infrastructure to utilities, piping systems, and fleet vehicles.

We expect the manager to develop long-term work plans and then use their skilled team to get that work done on things that improve the day-to-day lives of residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, plan, and oversee daily operations of the Public Works department, including roads, water distribution, wastewater collection, and fleet vehicles.
  • Lead and inspire a skilled team to execute work plans.
  • Interact with the public to address concerns, investigate complaints, and communicate activities accurately and respectfully.
  • Develop budgets and provide updates regularly on progress and expenditures.
  • Ensure safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance across all public works initiatives.
  • Handle emergencies related to public infrastructure (snowstorms, road repairs, water system issues).

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • At least 5 years previous leadership experience in road maintenance operations and/or utility operations, preferably in the municipal sector, including construction, snow removal, and buried utilities work.
  • Must be computer literate with strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license with a reasonably clean abstract.
  • Must have a clean Criminal Record Check.
  • Ability to make appropriate, logical, and practical decisions.
  • Strong, confident, and clear communication abilities in both written and spoken English.

Desired Qualifications and Skills

  • Preference for an applicant with a degree or diploma in a related field (public administration, business management, logistics, etc.), or holding designation as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET).
  • Knowledge of relevant provincial and municipal legislation, policies, and programs with the ability to integrate and use that knowledge.
  • Experience operating equipment and machinery.
  • A Class 3 license with Airbrakes Endorsement.
  • Strong time management skills to manage tasks with competing deadlines.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, verbal, writing, and presentation skills, with the ability to use tact, diplomacy, and mature judgment.
  • A commitment to continual improvement, both personally and professionally.
  • Capital and operating budget preparation and management.

Full Time • Permanent Employment

Salary: $90,851—$114,056

Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm

Evening and weekend work as required.
