Peace River Detachment forms part of the Peace Regional RCMP Detachment which delivers services to the Town of Peace River. Peace Regional Detachment operates as an integrated detachment and provides services to Peace River, Grimshaw and the rural communities within the area.
Peace River Detachment is responsible for delivering policing services to the residents of the Town of Peace River, Northern Sunrise County, Woodland Cree First Nation, and the Lubicon Lake First Nation.
The Town of Peace River is governed by a municipal policing contract and employs nine regular members and three municipal employees. In an effort to promote "Safe Homes, Safe Communities", the Town of Peace River approved an increase in establishment by adding two additional regular member positions (i.e. constables). At this time, the Town of Peace River will have contracted eleven police members to service the community.
Peace River Detachment is also home to various support services, which include Peace River Highway Patrol (four members), a Collision Analyst, General Investigation Services (seven members), a Police Dog Handler, a Forensic Identification Unit (three members), and a Radio Workshop (three members). These support services provide assistance to Peace River Detachment and the outlying detachments within Northern Alberta. Peace River Detachment is a member of the Western Alberta RCMP District.
